top 10 gluten-free products at trader joe’s

So you have probably heard of Trader Joe’s.  Or maybe you haven’t.  Maybe you have not yet had the pleasure of being greeted by eager, smiling workers or waiting in a line that wraps around the store.  Whether or not you have been before, you’re going to need to go after reading this post.  Because I have rounded up the ten best gluten-free products from Trader Joe’s, and you need them in your life.

Note: Trader Joe’s labels some of their items gluten-free.  (See the complete list here.) There are other items that while not labeled gluten-free, do not appear to contain any gluten ingredients.  Personally, I choose to only eat the products that are labeled GF because they are the only ones that Trader Joe’s can guarantee are made without cross-contamination.  However, many others eat products not labeled GF.  Therefore, use your own discretion when purchasing products.

1. Whole Grain Bread

Okay, okay, you’re probably thinking, “Why is bread #1 on this list? GF bread is never good, and they sell it everywhere.”  But guys, you have to trust me on this one.  The WHOLE GRAIN (not white, not Italian) BREAD from Trader Joe’s is my absolute favorite gluten-free bread.  I cannot even explain why it’s so good, but it just is.  It toasts to perfection, and is the best for making avocado toast, or adding almond butter, or even making a little sandwich.  Sometimes I literally just eat it dry! (don’t judge me.) The slices are small but make up for it with taste.  YOU MUST TRY THIS BREAD! The packaging is green, and it can be found on the GF shelf near all of the other bread products/dry goods.

2. Everything But the Bagel Seasoning

I feel like I don’t even need to explain this one…it’s the seasoning of an everything bagel, but without the bagel – what more could you ask for? I seriously put this stuff on everything – eggs, avocado toast, stir-fry, popcorn, you name it.  It adds a little salt-y and garlic-y flavor to any food, and just makes everything better.  Usually I buy a few bottles at a time, because if I am making avocado toast and realize we don’t have any left…let’s just say it’s not pretty.

3. Rolled Chili & Lime Corn Tortilla Chips

If you like salty, spicy, crunchy snacks, these are for you! Think Takis, but gluten-free.  They are rolled corn chips covered in a delicious chili-lime seasoning, and will probably leave a red residue on your fingertips (but it’s worth it).  I don’t buy them every time I go because they definitely aren’t the healthiest, but they are fun to bring to a gathering or on a road-trip.  If you’ve never had them, they you definitely need to add them to your list.

4. Mini Cupcakes

Gluten-free baked goods…a hot ticket item that can either be a hit or miss.  In my opinion, the Trader Joe’s cupcakes are a hit! They sell them full sized or mini, and I love the mini’s.  They are the perfect small and sweet treat to indulge in, and the frosting is very, very good.  I love these packs of cupcakes because they remind me of the packaged regular cupcakes, so I will often bring these to a party or gathering as a GF dessert option.

5. Everything Bagels

These were one of the first gluten-free bagels I tried, and they have remained one of my absolute favorites.  Trader Joe’s sells plain, cinnamon raisin and everything bagels (and sometimes pumpkin!) and they are dense and delicious.  Their bagels aren’t the small, wimpy GF bagels that I often find, but are full-sized and full of flavor.  I love eating them toasted with butter, but they are the perfect base for any breakfast sandwich.  Next time you’re at TJ’s, stock up on bagels and freeze some packs…your future self will thank you!

6. Pumpkin Bread Mix

When Halloween and Thanksgiving roll around, this pumpkin bread mix needs to be at the top of your grocery list! It is super easy to make, and is seriously one of my favorite GF baked goods that I have ever tried.  There is a perfect pumpkin flavor, and the bread is not dry at all.  I have made this to bring to parties, Thanksgiving dinner, and other occasions, and it is always a hit.  Make a simple sugar glaze to go on top and you are set!

7. Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Sometimes I am hesitate to try cauliflower crusts, because there is the strong chance that taste more like cardboard than pizza.  But this plain crust from Trader Joe’s surprised me…it was delicious and a great healthy alternative to normal pizza.  We LOADED our crust with toppings, including veggies and buffalo chicken, and we ate the whole thing.  They also make a kale and broccoli crust, which was delicious as well. Make sure that if you try these, you follow the baking instructions on the back of the box – the crusts need to be pre-baked before adding toppings!

8. Restaurant Style Chips

This may sound odd, but one of my favorite foods is tortilla chips.  Just plain, salty, restaurant style corn tortilla chips.  And these Trader Joe’s ones are pretty high in my rankings of tortilla chips.  They are thicker than Tostito’s, and very salty.  Definitely the perfect chip to go with some homemade guac or a good can of salsa.  They would probably make for some delicious nachos as well!

9. Corn Dippers

I am a huge fan of Frito’s, and these are basically Trader Joe’s version of Frito’s! They are much thicker though, and make for better dippers if you serve them with a salsa or guac.  They’re salty and crunchy, and the perfect chip to bring to any party or event.

10. Sweet Potato Crackers

I’ve never been a huge cracker fan, but I do LOVE sweet potatoes, so I gave this snack a shot.  I was pleasantly surprised with these crackers, which have the perfect sweet potato flavoring while still maintaining a satisfying crunch.  They also sell a similar cracker with a beet base, which are also delicious.  If you are looking to spice up your next cheese board, I would definitely recommend these.
